Did 'He' Drink?

Well, I happened to check out the latest editions of Hindustan Times and some other English dailies in India. And there were colorful pictures in some of them with related stories on how the statue of Shirdi Sai Baba and statues of other Gods in Mumbai actually started drinking milk!!??

Man! Is this possible? A statue when "Spoon-fed" drinks milk! I feel like, people take such things to heights of beliefs and they also make sure the news spread just like forest fire to the near by community. Ofcourse, if I had also been around, I would have walked into the temple just to peek on how a statue suddenly, on one fine day starts drinking milk!

On similar lines, is it 1995 when actually all "Lord Ganesha" statues in Tamil Nadu started drinking milk? Till now, I haven't witnessed these events but I do wonder, is the explanation of capillary/surface tension, factful? Or do we have a new explanation for this new story?

the explanation is simple. the surface of these idols absorbs any liquid. One man gave tea, water and milk to prove this. The idol absorbed some part of each of these liquids.
Again, its a matter of faith or rather superstition. educated people believe in the reason stated above while illiterate think otherwise.

Its a simple physics. I proved this during 1995 when there was a big rush of "Ganesha" drinking milk in one of my cousins house where there was a line of more than 500 people to see this and try. I showed how a idol which is not Ganesha also started drinking milk...means the spoon became empty but the milk obviously flows down in case of metal idol or gets absorbed by the mud idol. But, the family members told already so many people have gathered so sont taltk anything negative about his :)....this is how things works.........
