'Techincal' Foul! - A Beginning?

It's a well known fact that China has been really trying hard in recent years to come up to the speed of the western countries, in what, Technology. Chinese government has been lately funding lots of University & Industry Research Works and has intensified the pressure under the two worded campaign - Innovation Society. It seems, people are paid by the number of papers they release and by the inventions they come up with! Is this true? Anyways, have these efforts paid off well?

When the news came out that the one of the youngest & the most reputed Professor Chen Jin, dean of the microelectronics school at the prestigious Shanghai Jiaotong University is fired, its a rejoice time for companies like Texas Instruments- not just companies but sort of, for many Developed countries. This professor has faked his work - Claiming some other company's research as his own and that his DSP chips are capable of some incapable functionalities! Alright! All these can be accepted as any day to day story, but why is this making hot news?

Well! Prof. Jin's research is itself seen as an example of how China is capable of developing its own technology, equivalent to those of the western countries - Making China not to rely on other countries' imports. So, those claims went down the hill with the firing of the professor. At the same time, analysts are predicting that many of the research works in China fall under the same category. Many more 'fradulent' researchers will come to the light soon after this, is the expectation!

But, how are they going to be identified? Shouldn't the new technology based research & development works done in China be analyzed & verified by the international community? Yes, but the problem is the language - Mainly not affluent in English! So, unless it is made mandatory that their works meet international standards, they can't be verified! I guess, the responsibility once again falls on the Chinese government! They should make sure that the legitimate research works are duely acknowldeged by appropriate verifications!

At the same time, it's the researchers' responsibility to do an honest research! Let's just hope the Chinese government's funding will be properly used by the researchers not only to come up with the best inventions but to help the World's technology community as a whole!

Prof.Jin - Wishfully, He is not the beginning!

whatever jags, the pint is that you live in US. only that matters to me. Anyway, does that mean US thinks democracy is a better form of govt. then why US is not a democratic country. and i have a suggestion, if they wanna setup a democratic government is Iraq, then they should pack al gore and john kerry and send them to Iraq. that would solve the problem.

Democracy is not defined in words - Like a Democrat is the prez or the Republican is the Prez!
Democracy is a feeling - freedom for people with the restrictions of rules & laws.

The deal is something US & India were planning for a long time - way before Bush's trip to India. I'm not sure where Pak comes into this picture!
