Infosys Management Changes

While talking about Shibulal's commitment Murthy recounted an anecdote. When they worked in Patni, he came to report about the progress in a systems software project. Murthy angrily told Shibu that he could not leave office till he completed this work. Two days later he zipped by office and found Shibu still in office in his "lungi" working diligently on the job that his then boss, Murthy, had asked him to complete. "This is the level of commitment Shibulal demonstrates," said Murthy…

Run out using dismantled stumps

Well, it was last but 1 ball of KIXP innings when Brett Lee was bowling. The fielder threw the ball & the batsmen were running. The ball from the fielder directly hit the stumps & already the bails are thrown away & one of the stumps is moved way away from the other two.

Now, the ball moves away from the fielders & the batsmen once again starts running as a over throw. How can the fielders make a run out using the dismantled stumps? Is it possible?

Vivek's +ve Words

I’m always uttering to everyone around me – “Ellaaaaiii…. Don’t Worry; Be Happyyyyyyyy” - The way Vivek used to tell in movies.

Really positive!

The other words I tell others are

·         “Aaall izzz Well”

·         “Enjoy the meaning of R-E-L-A-X”

·         “Feel feather light at heart & mind”

·         “No expectations; No disappointments”

·         Life is awesome

·         Today is the best day ever in my life… Have never been better & can’t ask for more…

Children

The nursery principal who gave us good advice long time back about the times book – written here – once again gave a lot of advice… Some about how to bring up your kid.

-          Kids should be preached & advised till the age of 5 – No scolds & beatings b’cos they won’t understand.

-          Kids should be scolded till age of 16 to set the right directions. If need be, beat them but as a last resort.

-          Well, after 16, your child is your friend… Be the first for your child, to share his/her feelings.

Really insightful…

Tirunelveli Halwa

Couple of days back, I took lots of Tirunelveli halwa to office & sent across an email for people to have. To my surprise, there were very less takers for the same, but whoever took & tried for the first time repeatedly came back & have had lots. Well, many didn’t even know about Tirunelveli Halwa…

It’s been quite a long time since I had the same & ofcourse, its worth every bit, especially from “Iruttu kadai”

Hyderabad

As I was coming along the Panjagutta flyover today, I was definitely feeling that I will be missing this city if I move out of it. I feel, this city is nice in every aspect, may be not with that of the telangana stuffs.

Is this for real? The sale of complete credit card data of Sony Playstation owners… Data is so unsecured & our privacy is obviously so insecure.

ValueResearchOnline & MoneyControl, both are truly good websites to maintain & analyze our personal financial investments portfolio… Integrating them with MS Excel to download the details from the site is an added advantage.

Slower... Infosys

I think we should attribute the sluggish performance figures of Infosys to the business model, of not going for any kind of acquisitions during the slow economy inspite of having billions of liquid cash. What say?

OSU Memory

One of my friends from OSU, sent me the page where my name is called out – Academic Learning Lab, Younkin Success Center – That is the place where I worked as a graduate assistant during my masters… Some cool days in my life.

My friend/colleague threw me a sweet surprise today by sending me a good reco in LinkedIn today - Made me feel light!

Every time... First time

Every time you do something, you’ll be doing it for the first time – Even if you repeatedly try something say, for the 10th time, the 10th time is 1st in its own respect & it’s never going to repeat again…

Likewise, every day is THE one day which you are never going to see again in your lifetime. So, you better make the most out of it. Celebrate Every Day As Your Birthday…

Royal Wedding

There was a mention in the news channels that England’s economy is surging up heavily because of the Royal wedding plans, arrangements & celebrations… Interesting! “Royal” which obviously has lots of wealth from those days of English rule all around the world…

But, the secrecy about Prince & the bride’s marriage dress is making news all around! Really, is it that worth?

The father of Yusuf & Irfan Pathan was in the stadium watching the game between DDR & KKR & he was wearning KKR’s T Shirt supporting Yusuf. He was in fact beaming with pride.

The latest news on smuggling of swiss watches into India by Parminder worth crores just reminds me of the movie Ayan…

Bata

It’s like movie Anniyan where stealing 5 paise for 5000 times from 500000 people…

One of my friends was explaining how Bata is making money by putting say INR199.95 price on slippers & shoes. Now, Bata is so renowned that people throng for the same. With that kind of marked price, Bata is not only evading tax brackets & margins but also enjoying a 5 paise profit from most of the customers. It’s a loot for them…

Likewise, there was one ad about how Indian gas stations are stealing from customers… When you ask for Rs 100 petrol, the person controls the lever & stops at like 99.89 or 99.75 etc… If such kind of small paise is made from every single customer who stops at a gas station, yet another loot for the already heavy margin profit making oil companies…

Homeopathy

I really would like to know if Homeopathy medicine does work or not? People always say that we need to take the same for long time, no side effects & ultimately cures… But no clue!

Section 144?

Why do we need to put Puttaparthi under Section 144? That I feel, is something totally uncalled for.

If Sai Baba’s condition is critical, people would be in fact sad & would do prayers… May be candle light march & bhajans! Ain’t it?

The news of Sathya Sai Baba's deteriorating condition has caused concern to his devotees in India and abroad who see him as the incarnation of god.

Police have imposed prohibitory orders undersection 144 of the Indian Penal Code, banning assembly of five or more persons in the town.

The forces have also taken control of the Sathya Sai Super Speciality Hospital at Prashanti Gram village on the outskirts of the town. All the roads leading towards the hospital have been sealed.

SL Players

Aren’t the Srilankan players practicing by playing in IPL? Is it like SLCB doesn’t want its player to earn money?

A Chat with Dr. Devi Shetty (Heart Specialist)

A chat with Dr.Devi Shetty, Narayana Hrudayalaya

(Heart Specialist) Bangalore was arranged by WIPRO for its employees .

The transcript of the chat is given below. Useful for everyone.

Qn: What are the thumb rules for a layman to take care of his heart?

Ans:

1. Diet - Less of carbohydrate, more of protein, less oil

2. Exercise - Half an hour's walk, at least five days a week; avoid lifts and avoid sitting for a longtime

3. Quit smoking

4. Control weight

5. Control blood pressure and sugar

Qn: Is eating non-veg food (fish) good for the heart?

Ans: No

Qn: It's still a grave shock to hear that some apparently healthy person

gets a cardiac arrest. How do we understand it in perspective?

Ans: This is called silent attack; that is why we recommend everyone past the age of 30 to undergo routine health checkups.

Qn: Are heart diseases hereditary?

Ans: Yes

Qn: What are the ways in which the heart is stressed? What practices do you suggest to de-stress?

Ans: Change your attitude towards life. Do not look for perfection in everything in life.

Qn: Is walking better than jogging or is more intensive exercise required to keep a healthy heart?

Ans: Walking is better than jogging since jogging leads to early fatigue and injury to joints

Qn: You have done so much for the poor and needy. What has inspired you to do so?

Ans: Mother Theresa , who was my patient

Qn: Can people with low blood pressure suffer heart diseases?

Ans: Extremely rare

Qn: Does cholesterol accumulates right from an early age

(I'm currently only 22) or do you have to worry about it only after you are above 30 years of age?

Ans: Cholesterol accumulates from childhood.

Qn: How do irregular eating habits affect the heart ?

Ans: You tend to eat junk food when the habits are irregular and your body's enzyme release for digestion gets confused.

Qn: How can I control cholesterol content without using medicines?

Ans: Control diet, walk and eat walnut.

Qn: Can yoga prevent heart ailments?

Ans: Yoga helps.

Qn: Which is the best and worst food for the heart?

Ans: Fruits and vegetables are the best and the worst is oil.

Qn: Which oil is better - groundnut, sunflower, olive?

Ans: All oils are bad .

Qn: What is the routine checkup one should go through? Is there any specific test?

Ans: Routine blood test to ensure sugar, cholesterol is ok. Check BP, Treadmill test after an echo.

Qn: What are the first aid steps to be taken on a heart attack?

Ans: Help the person into a sleeping position , place an aspirin tablet under the tongue with a sorbitrate tablet if available, and rush him to a coronary care unit since the maximum casualty takes place within the first hour.

Qn: How do you differentiate between pain caused by a heart attack and that caused due to gastric trouble?

Ans: Extremely difficult without ECG.

Qn: What is the main cause of a steep increase in heart problems amongst youngsters? I see people of about 30-40 yrs of age having heart attacks and serious heart problems.

Ans: Increased awareness has increased incidents. Also, s edentary lifestyles, smoking, junk food, lack of exercise in a country where people are genetically three times more vulnerable for heart attacks than Europeans and Americans.

Qn: Is it possible for a person to have BP outside the normal range of 120/80 and yet be perfectly healthy?

Ans: Yes.

Ans : Yes, co-sanguinity leads to congenital abnormalities and you may not have a software engineer as a child

Qn: Many of us have an irregular daily routine and many a times we have to stay late nights in office. Does this affect our heart ? What precautions would you recommend?

Ans : When you are young, nature protects you against all these irregularities. However, as you grow older, respect the biological clock.

Qn: Will taking anti-hypertensive drugs cause some other complications (short / long term)?

Ans : Yes, most drugs have some side effects. However, modern anti-hypertensive drugs are extremely safe.

Qn: Will consuming more coffee/tea lead to heart attacks?

Ans : No.

Qn: Are asthma patients more prone to heart disease?

Ans : No.

Qn: How would you define junk food?

Ans : Fried food like Kentucky , McDonalds , samosas, and even masala dosas.

Ans: Every race is vulnerable to some disease and unfortunately, Indians are vulnerable for the most expensive disease.

Qn: Does consuming bananas help reduce hypertension?

Ans : No.

Qn: Can a person help himself during a heart attack (Because we see a lot of forwarded emails on this)?

Ans : Yes. Lie down comfortably and put an aspirin tablet of any description under the tongue and ask someone to take you to the nearest coronary care unit without any delay and do not wait for the ambulance since most of the time, the ambulance does not turn up.

Qn: Do, in any way, low white blood cells and low hemoglobin count lead to heart problems?

Ans : No. But it is ideal to have normal hemoglobin level to increase your exercise capacity.

Qn: Sometimes, due to the hectic schedule we are not able to exercise. So, does walking while doing daily chores at home or climbing the stairs in the house, work as a substitute for exercise?

Ans : Certainly. Avoid sitting continuously for more than half an hour and even the act of getting out of the chair and going to another chair and sitting helps a lot.

Qn: Is there a relation between heart problems and blood sugar?

Ans: Yes. A strong relationship since diabetics are more vulnerable to heart attacks than non-diabetics.

Ans : Diet, exercise, drugs on time , Control cholesterol, BP, weight.

Qn: Are people working on night shifts more vulnerable to heart disease when compared to day shift workers?

Ans : No.

Qn: What are the modern anti-hypertensive drugs?

Ans : There are hundreds of drugs and your doctor will chose the right combination for your problem, but my suggestion is to avoid the drugs and go for natural ways of controlling blood pressure by walk, diet to

reduce weight and changing attitudes towards lifestyles.

Qn: Does dispirin or similar headache pills increase the risk of heart attacks?

Ans : No.

Qn: Why is the rate of heart attacks more in men than in women?

Ans : Nature protects women till the age of 45. (Present Global census show that the Percentage of heart disease in women has increased than in men )

Qn: How can one keep the heart in a good condition?

Ans : Eat a healthy diet, avoid junk food, exercise everyday, do not smoke and, go for health checkup s if you are past the age of 30 ( once in six months recommended) ....

RR vs KKR

Check out the comedy from Cricinfo… Over # 14.5 – RR bowling to KKR

Trivedi to Gambhir, (no ball) FOUR, Gambhir has been caught on the deep midwicket boundary but the umpire has called no-ball because there were only three fielders in the circle, when there should have been four. Aleem Dar is on the ball and has spotted it. It was a short ball and Gambhir had pulled it flat and hard, straight to the fielder on the boundary. It's been given four as well, I'm not sure why. There's a lot of chat out there now. Botha realised it was no-ball, perhaps, and threw the ball towards bowler's end but everyone else was celebrating the wicket and no one collected the ball, which then went to the boundary

Rich Politicians

If Indian politicians like Jagan can declare so much like 365 crore & if his wife can declare 4133 crores, then why are so many people below poverty line? BTW, where is he getting all these from? Also, if he is declaring so much, then think about something that will go undeclared!

Infy Announcements

A surprising announcement that came in was that Mohandas Pai has decided to quit as a Member of the Board at Infosys and has asked the Board to relieve him of the responsibilities after the company's annual general meeting on June 11, 2011. A note from Narayana Murthy Chairman and Chief Mentor said that Pai would be going forward for higher projects that would be for the greater good of the nation. "Mohan has been an early adopter and a keen anchor builder of Infosys. It is difficult to imagine Infosys without Mohan's passion, commitment, joie-de-vivre and intellect. We all know that he is taking this painful decision, since he has much bigger projects in the horizon nation building. The Board and every Infoscion thank Mr. Mohandas Pai for his wonderful contribution and wish him great success in his future endeavors," Murthy said in a press conference. - From Yahoo

Criminals...

What a good stat to look upon – Criminals Contest Elections

Anna Hazare and his fight for the Lokpal Bill

1. Who is Anna Hazare?
An ex-army man. Fought 1965 Indo-Pak War

2. What's so special about him?

He built a village Ralegaon Siddhi in Ahamad Nagar district, Maharashtra

3. So what?
This village is a self-sustained model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from solar power, biofuel and wind mills.
In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village. Now it is one of the richest village in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic village.

4. Ok,...?

This guy, Anna Hazare was awarded Padma Bhushan and is a known figure for his social activities.

5. Really, what is he fighting for?

He is supporting a cause, the amendment of a law to curb corruption in India.

6. How that can be possible?
He is advocating for a Bil, The Lok Pal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), beurocrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds.

8. It's an entirely new thing right..?

In 1972, the bill was proposed by then Law minister Mr. Shanti Bhushan. Since then it has been neglected by the politicians and some are trying to change the bill to suit thier theft (corruption).

7. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be possible in such a short span of time?

The first thing he is asking for is: the government should come forward and announce that the bill is going to be passed.
Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT the LOK PAL BILL. 50% goverment participation and 50% public participation. Because you cant trust the government entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them.

8. Fine, What will happen when this bill is passed?

A LokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year. Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished. Not like, Bofors scam or Bhopal Gas Tragedy case, that has been going for last 25 years without any result.

9. Is he alone? Whoelse is there in the fight with Anna Hazare?

Baba Ramdev, Ex. IPS Kiran Bedi, Social Activist Swami Agnivesh, RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal and many more.
Prominent personalities like Aamir Khan is supporting his cause.

10. Ok, got it. What can I do?

At least we can spread the message. How?
Putting status message, links, video, changing profile pics.
At least we can support Anna Hazare and the cause for uprooting corruption from India.
At least we can hope that his Hunger Strike does not go in vain.
At least we can pray for his good health.

Spread the above word to the entire world.

A look at the salient features of Jan Lokpal Bill:

1. An institution called LOKPAL at the centre and LOKAYUKTA in each state will be set up

2. Like Supreme Court and Election Commission, they will be completely independent of the governments. No minister or bureaucrat will be able to influence their investigations.

3. Cases against corrupt people will not linger on for years anymore: Investigations in any case will have to be completed in one year. Trial should be completed in next one year so that the corrupt politician, officer or judge is sent to jail within two years.

4. The loss that a corrupt person caused to the government will be recovered at the time of conviction.

5. How will it help a common citizen: If any work of any citizen is not done in prescribed time in any government office, Lokpal will impose financial penalty on guilty officers, which will be given as compensation to the complainant.

6. So, you could approach Lokpal if your ration card or passport or voter card is not being made or if police is not registering your case or any other work is not being done in prescribed time. Lokpal will have to get it done in a month's time. You could also report any case of corruption to Lokpal like ration being siphoned off, poor quality roads been constructed or panchayat funds being siphoned off. Lokpal will have to complete its investigations in a year, trial will be over in next one year and the guilty will go to jail within two years.

7. But won't the government appoint corrupt and weak people as Lokpal members? That won't be possible because its members will be selected by judges, citizens and constitutional authorities and not by politicians, through a completely transparent and participatory process.

8. What if some officer in Lokpal becomes corrupt? The entire functioning of Lokpal/ Lokayukta will be completely transparent. Any complaint against any officer of Lokpal shall be investigated and the officer dismissed within two months.

9. What will happen to existing anti-corruption agencies? CVC, departmental vigilance and anti-corruption branch of CBI will be merged into Lokpal. Lokpal will have complete powers and machinery to independently investigate and prosecute any officer, judge or politician.

10. It will be the duty of the Lokpal to provide protection to those who are being victimized for raising their voice against corruption.
