Football Fever!

The whole world is watching and the happenings everyday are so dynamic - It is the FIFA World Cup Fever!

  • Like, I didn't expect Switzerland to lose to Ukraine yesterday - Well, the consolation for Switzerland is, the first team to walk out of FIFA with 'No goals' against!
  • With all eyes watching Brazil's Number 9 in the game against Ghana, Kaka's pass did the magic and Ronaldo etched his name in the record book with 15 goals in FIFA. Hats off!
  • And with the last eight teams decided (all expected except Ukraine), the tension is mounting more... I wish, Germany walks away with the cup, atleast this time:)!

There is another part to this fever story - A bitter one though! (Picture from The Hindu) More & more stories keep coming of asian poor villagers being exploited in unhealthy & unsafe working conditions for very cheap labor rates! This story is no different, except that we are seeing children!

Just to meet the demand of FootBalls in the international arena this season, these poor village children near Meerut, India are made to work! With poor lighting, bad sitting positions, unattended needle pricks & knife cuts, these kids are stitching at a rate of 2 balls per day for an average Rupees 5 per ball.

Without worrying about their future and their health, these poor kids are serving their families on a day to day basis! Well, these kinds of prolonged workings hours in very bad working conditions is kind of common at many small scale industries in India, for adults or for that matter, kids. Even though, different Indian states are taking measures to abolish child labor, the condition hasn’t improved and is sure more than prevalent! Are the politicians taking a note of these or are they too ‘involved’?

Unless, the Indian government take some stringent actions and put some hard & fast rules, things are never going to improve! More seasons & fevers will come by and more kids will join the bandwagon. May be OSHA should review different industry segments in India and start making very strong suggestions for improvements.

Child labour has always been a problem in India. I've sent this as a feedback to the govt on their website. HA! I know they don't care for this.
Anyways, why do u say that Ukraine doesn't deserve to be in round of 8. I thought Ukraine wud make it to the semis. Schevchenko is one of the best players in the world. though this world cup, they've played defending game and schevchenko was more in mid-field, but I guess they'll play their natural attacking game now coz they have to face top guns.
The unexpected team in the round of 8 is France. with all old players its impossible for them to play a fast game. Counter attack is a distant dream for France.
While Germany is the best right now. all new legs. Germany seems to have mastered counter attacking.
My favourite this world cup is Argentina. Hernan crespo rocks. The worst thing is about to happen in the world cup. Germany will face Argentina in the round of 8 and one of them will be out of the race.
I just wish, any team wins the world cup but Brazil.

Well, as i said, the line up from the 16 qualifiers - Ukraine beating Swiss was unexpected for me & I expected France to come over Spain.
Now for this round, my picks are Germany, Italy, England & Brazil.

Well, my picks differ a bit. I feel Italy doesn't stand a chance. Its the worst of these teams. According to me, Argentina has a fair chance of winning this world cup. Lionel messi has shown some impressive skills. Crespo is in top form.
England has all the big names but only Gerrard seems to work. Rooney hasn't opened his account yet and is not totally fit. Micheal Owen is injured. Peter Crouch loves to get booked. so overall, england is going through a striker crisis. Their manager did a stupid thing, he has picked up Theo Walcott in the swuad. this 16 year old has never played a first division match! not even in a club. now he can't take a risk using the most inexperienced Walcott. He could've taken West Ham's top scorer Dean Ashton.
I feel Portugal will easily defeat England. Though christiano Ronaldo is injured, Costinha and Deco have been red carded, still the side is very strong.

May be you are correct.
As I said before, I'm not too much into Soccer & I don't do too much of analysis.
