An Air's Sneak Peek!

"with the knowledge and direction of the highest management levels of WestJet"
read one of the statements from WestJet -Canada's biggest low cost airline apologizing for their act of 'peeking' into Air Canada's database during the period of 2003 & 2004. And it seems this went on till Air Canada discovered & revealed!

If a company can get access to their competitor's database and website just by using one of the competitor employee's used id & password, then for sure they can misuse to the maximum possible extent - Like in this instance, log into Air Canada's reservation database, take advantage by having lesser & competitive ticket prices for WestJet's passengers and understand Air Canada's plans for new routes & how to optimize revenue on existing routes. But is this the ethic that is to be encouraged by the management of any company or is this something specific to Air Industry or may be this is a specific seperate incident? Competition is good but unethical behavior should never be accepted - I mean, a cash compensation of C$235mil or anything more than that can't compensate the act.

Something funny around this is, this line from Financial Times (FT.com)

Air Canada acknowledged hiring a private investigator to gather evidence against one of WestJet's co-founders by sifting through his domestic garbage.
Looks like confidential information of companies can be grabbed out of the executive's domestic garbage:)

surely a nice way to know what the compititor upto..
u need traitors do such thing...and our world isnt short of them..!!
just throw a dollar and he would tell u his username and password...what does he lose...nothing..he actually gains stuff..
and what damn difference would it make to him if his compititor company's flights fly more often than his company does..??
he gets his assured salary..and a dollar more..:)!!
and the compititor's company supporting this is a really cheap and low act...West Jet must be having a sufficient amount of financial advisors...then why the hell do they need to cheat..??
they can use their own common sense to think why they fail..
and the law which sworns to protect people from idea thefts is sitting dumb..so this is another victory of traitors over innovators..
(sorry abt the spelling though..!!)

Well, I got no idea if the username was bought or not. knowing competitor's info is good but not thru the back door though.
