The book is called ‘Opportunity’ and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”

Today’s Bonus:

Wish you a Happy New Year. – Correct.

Wish you a Happy New Year 2011 – Wrong

Do not include the actual Year along with the greeting. If you want to give importance to the year then, say

Or

Wish You a Happy 2011 – Correct.

Today’s Bonus: Good Evening ~ Good Night

‘Good evening’ is a way of saying ‘hello’ to someone in the evening. Some people start using this expression at 5 pm, others wait till 6 pm; there seems to be no fixed time as to when you start wishing someone, ‘Good evening’. When you run into someone at eleven o’clock in the night, you can still wish him ‘Good evening’.

You normally wish someone ‘Good night’ when you are taking leave of someone in the evening — not in the morning or afternoon! It’s another way of saying ‘goodbye’.

- Emerson, Ralph Waldo

Today’s Bonus:

My name is Prof. Anil Kumar. - Wrong

( Many teachers in India have the habit of introducing themselves in this manner. A native speaker of English wouldn’t say in this manner.

Remember, ‘Professor’ is the designation of a person; it is not a part of his name. )

If you would like people to know that you are a professor, then you will be better saying,

I am Prof. Anil Kumar - Correct

You only need someone to accept you completely.

Today’s Bonus: Ex ~ Former

If you are in the habit of changing jobs every six months, you will have several ‘former bosses’, but only one ‘ex-boss’.

Your previous boss is your ex-boss, and the ones you had before him are your former bosses.

E.g. Jayalalithaa is the ex-Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.

E.g. MGR, Anna,  and Kamarajar  are all ‘former’ Chief Ministers of Tamilnadu.

Today’s Bonus:

I have a head-bath every Saturday – Wrong.

This is an expression that is commonly heard in India. Native speakers of English don’t use this word, and probably won’t understand what you mean by it. When a native speaker of English talks about taking a ‘bubble bath’, what he means is that he is going to get into a bathtub which is full of water and soap bubbles.

Or, Simply we can say, ‘I wash my hair every Saturday.’

Today’s Bonus:

I am crazy after English. - Wrong

I am crazy about English. - Right

When you are crazy about something, you like it very much. You go after it because you are very interested in it.

It is also possible to say, I am mad about English.

Dec 23, 2010

Good day...

“It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an

hour to like someone, and a day to love someone-but it

takes a lifetime to forget someone.”

Today’s Bonus:

Myself is Sri Ramana – Wrong

I am Sri Ramana or My Name is Sri Ramana  - Correct.

A sentence cannot begin  with the word ‘myself’. You can use ‘myself’ only when you have used the word ‘I’ earlier in the same sentence.

E.g.: I did all the cooking myself. You cannot say, Myself did all the cooking.

Steps to Success

Few Steps to Achieve Success
1. Self-Belief: Success begins in the mind. One has to be a believer, first, if one wishes to be an achiever. Never under-estimate yourself. You have no idea how often can you surprise yourself. So to begin with, let's get in the belief, "I Can."
2. Clarity of Vision: There is no point running around without knowing where one wants to reach. you must get your job cut out. Greatest achievers in the world have been visionaries. Know exactly what you are best at and give it your best shot.
3. Setting the Right Goals: The goals should be realistic. The goals should be achievable, and yet challenging enough - neither too easy nor too difficult, something in the middle.
4. Be focused: If the sun's rays are focused on a piece of paper with a lens, the intensity of the concentrated energy burns the paper. Focus on your objective will enhance the intensity of the effects of your efforts.
5. No Short Cuts to Success: There are no short cuts to success. Divide your overall goals into smaller targets. Divide your monthly plans into weekly and weekly plans into daily plans and see how simple can things be.
6. Take Risks: Without any risk no progress is possible. Life comes to a stable standstill. People who take chances are the people who get ahead in life. The only way to reduce risk is to take risks.
7. Take the Initiative: People who take the initiative make the most of their lives. Proactive people do not wait for success to happen; rather they make it happen. As they say, 'JUST DO IT'.
8. Never Hesitate to Struggle: No one has ever climbed a mountain just by looking at it. Struggle, hard struggle, is a key to success.
9. Own Responsibility: Failure to hit the bull's eye is never the fault of the target. People, who own complete responsibility of their lives, are the people who make the most of it.
10. Never Give Up: Many people who failed in life, are those who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. Success demands extra-ordinary amount of perseverance. Never, never, give up.

Success

"Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm, till reaching the goal."

Today’s Bonus: Interpreter ~ Translator

An interpreter is someone who deals with the spoken word.

e.g.: When Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave a speech in Hindi at the UN General Assembly in 1977, interpreters speaking in different languages (French, English, Spanish, etc) let the audience know what our then Minister of External Affairs was saying.

The translator mostly deals with the written word; he rewrites documents from one language to another.

Reality Shows

The Sangeetha Maha Yutham kind of reality shows are good. It becomes more of a team work, a real time playback singer guides individuals & the small kids will not undergo too much of tension or for that matter depression when they fail. What say?

ISB

Indian School of Business is not rated good globally in many of the rankings. Only in FT, we could see ISB in top 10. Unsure, how much it is renowned for global corps.

Dec 17, 2010

Good day...

“There are two difficult things to say in life – One is saying “hello” for the first time to unknown person, second is saying “good bye”  for the last time to whom we really love.”

                   What a positive ( comic ) thought!!!!!!!!!

Today’s Bonus: Give in ~ Give up

If you are having an argument with a friend, and you ‘give in', it means you concede. In other words, you ‘cave in'. You accept your friend's point of view, though you really don't want to. When a person ‘gives in', he usually does so reluctantly.

e.g.: The CEO refused to give in to the demands of the workers.

When you ‘give up' doing something, you quit or stop doing it; In this case, the quitting may be voluntary or forced.

e.g.: My doctor has told me to give up smoking.

Position of a Husband Is just like a Split AC
No matter however Loud he is in the Outdoor

"Husband is one who is the head of the family,
but his wife is the neck, and whichever way she turns, he goes."

Can I make a call to my Wife?
After making call he asked how much to pay.
Devil : Nothing, Hell to hell is Free.

Husband: Do you know the meaning of WIFE?
It means, Without Information, Fighting Everytime!
Wife: No darling, it means - With Idiot For Ever

Wife: I wish I was a newspaper,
So I'd be in your hands all day.
Husband: I too wish that you were a newspaper,
So I could have a new one every day.

Doctor: Your husband needs rest and peace. Here are some sleeping Pills.
Wife: When must I give them to him?
Doctor: They are for you

Wife: I had to marry you to find out how stupid you are..
Husband: You should have known it the minute I asked you to marry me.

Wife: What will you give me if I climb the great Mount Everest ?
Husband: A lovely Push...!

Articles on Intrapreneur

INTRAPRENEUR

Wiki…

"Intrapreneurship refers to employee initiatives in organizations to undertake something new, without being asked to do so." [5] Hence, the intrapreneur focuses on innovation and creativity, and transforms an idea into a profitable venture, while operating within the organizational environment. Thus, intrapreneurs are Inside entrepreneurs who follow the goal of the organization. Intrapreneurship is an example of motivation through job design, either formally or informally. (See also Corporate Social Entrepreneurship: intrapreneurship within the firm which is driven to produce social capital in addition to economic capital.)

Employees, such as marketing executives[6] or perhaps those engaged in a special project within a larger firm, are encouraged to behave as entrepreneurs, even though they have the resources, capabilities and security of the larger firm to draw upon. Capturing a little of the dynamic nature of entrepreneurial management (trying things until successful, learning from failures, attempting to conserve resources, etc.) adds to the potential of an otherwise static organization, without exposing those employees to the risks or accountability normally associated with entrepreneurial failure.

‘Until' and ‘till' are usually used with time. In terms of meaning, there is no difference. ‘Until' is considered to be the more formal than ‘till'.

e.g.: There are no tickets available until/till February.

‘Up to' is used to refer to distance, and not time.

e.g.: The students walked up to the gate and started throwing stones.

The word can also be used to talk about quantity.

e.g.: Some people are earning  up to Rs.10, 000 sitting at home
